A jar of raw honey, a bag of brown sugar, and a small bowl of blueberries are placed on a white kitchen counter, perfect ingredients to sweeten your homemade milk tea.

Stay home. Stay safe. Make boba. Using only a handful of ingredients and just a little time, you can easily make this delicious beverage from the comfort of your own kitchen. Here’s a simple step-by-step tutorial.

Treat yourself, you deserve it!

Ingredients

A clear glass bowl contains small, round, grayish-white coated candies resembling boba pearls on a light-colored surface.

Steps

  1. Brew your choice of tea according to instructions, let chill. Traditionally we use black tea but feel free to experiment with green or oolong tea. I like a robust tea flavor in my drinks, so I brew the tea a bit stronger than usual.
  2. Bring a medium pot of water to boil. Cook tapioca according to package directions. I use about 40 pieces per 16 oz drink.
  3. In a separate small pan, heat up equal parts brown sugar and honey over low heat. Add a splash of water if it’s too thick.
  4. When the tapioca balls have finished cooking, scoop them into the sugar/honey mixture and simmer for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Scoop tapioca balls into a tall glass. Add as much of the brown sugar syrup as you like.
  6. Add the chilled brewed tea, top with your choice of milk or creamer. I like a 3/4 tea and 1/4 milk ratio.
