10 Dog-Friendly Coffee Bars in L.A.

Tracy Kumono |

Being an L.A. native, it’s easy to overlook the many unique neighborhoods in the City of Angels. What better way to rediscover L.A. than to go coffee bar hopping around the city with your furry bestie? For Chelsea the Terrier and her scruffy sister Emma, finding pup friendly establishments when grabbing a latte are a must. Dog friendly coffee bars usually provide outdoor seating, water bowl, and a safe place to tie your pup. There are so many stylish coffee shops to visit with the new wave of independent coffee bars sprouting up all over L.A.. You don’t necessarily have to be a coffee connoisseur to appreciate good coffee and beautifully designed spaces. Here are some of Chelsea & Emma’s favorite fur friendly coffee establishments:

1. Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea, Silverlake

“Our Silver Lake coffeebar seeks to bridge the gap between the outdoors and in store with plenty of outdoor seating. Our coffeebar reflects the spirit of its neighborhood with its casual, minimalistic design aesthetic. Standing at center stage sits a marvelous blue-tiled bar, featuring Intelligentsia’s internationally known baristas and of course, spectacular espressos and coffees.” – Intelligentsia website

Located at Sunset Junction, this place has lots of spacious outdoor patio seating. The floor is beautifully decorated with stunning bright blue and white patterned tiles.

2. Verve Coffee Roasters, Beverly Grove

“Verve Coffee has a large, modern and industrial feel inside with outdoor seating available in front and back of the shop. We love the assortment of yummy Superba pastries they have!”

3. Tom’s Roasting Co., Venice

Tom’s Flagship Store and Coffee Bar has a cool rustic vibe with a spacious dog friendly back patio and an astro turf lawn — perfect for hanging out!

4. Go Get Em Tiger, Los Feliz

“The Go Get Em Tiger’s location features about 1,200 square feet inside, plus a plush 1,000 square foot patio that overlooks this section of Hollywood Blvd. The coffee program focuses on a refined, multi-roaster setup with an emphasis on creatively presented drinks. ” – Eater Los Angeles

Great coffee with a very hipster vibe. We even spotted a few TV actors here! This place has a nice shady outdoor deck to hang out on. If you’re in the mood for some ice cream, Mcconnell’s Ice Cream is right next door.

5. Blacktop Coffee, Art District

Small coffee bar inside, but has plenty of outdoor seating and their avocado toast is a must try. Check out Alchemy Works next door, they are also dog friendly.

6. Woodcat Coffee Bar, Echo Park

“Adorable rustic coffee spot with red walls. They provide a clip to leash your dog outside and have limited bench seating. Right next door, there’s a colorful and Instagrammable (score!) wall mural by the artist Scott Albrecht to take really cool pictures in front of.”

7. Collage Coffee, Highland Park

A small coffee bar, with limited seating outside. We are in love with the colorful bold tile design covering the exterior and interior of this coffee bar designed by artists FAILE. Their waffle on a stick is worth a try.

8. Blackwood Coffee Bar, Hollywood

Right down the street from Runyon Canyon. The perfect place to grab a refreshing tea or coffee after a long hike. They have a nice outdoor seating area with a living plant wall.

9. Smith & Tait, West Hollywood

Tucked away from busy Santa Monica Boulevard is this tiny gem. They have a cute little outdoor nook to hang with your pup and unique drink menu items such as black sesame and turmeric latte.

10. Alfred Tea Room, West Hollywood

When we want to opt for tea instead of coffee, we love this whimsically peachy pink themed tea shop. You can even order boba with your iced tea.
